Signet rings are making a comeback, find out how to wear them in style

 

Signet rings are back. For many years, they have been considered a dated jewellery piece and left behind in our mother and grandmother’s jewellery boxes. After resting for a long time inside the showcases of antique jewellery shops, vintage jewellery is having a huge renaissance lately, and signet rings are back in the game becoming once again the cutting edge of fashion.

The signet ring is loaded with historic significance. Its origins date back to the ancient Egypt of the Pharaohs. Since ancient times, this band has symbolized power, heritage and authority, closely associated with the aristocracy and used as a signature or personal seal.

Traditionally, signet rings had the family crest of their owner engraved in reverse, to be used as a seal on the private correspondence by pressing it into hot wax. Historically, they have been also called “Gentleman’s ring”, because men of stature used to wear them. Hip-hop urban culture brought signet rings back into the 20^th century and they matched perfectly with the oversized jewellery of the 80s. From this moment on, signet rings were no longer a matter of aristocrats but turned into a fashion item.

In recent years, 80s trends are back in full force and so have signet rings. Nowadays, we have at our disposal a huge variety of signet rings that can be worn by both men and women. These rings have been completely reimagined by jewellery designers, from daily minimal gold bands to the most stunning versions studded with colourful precious stones. They can also be customized adding the initials or the zodiac sing of their owner, reinterpreting what they used to be.

Signet rings are one of our last additions to our jewellery collection. Each one is handcrafted by master artisans in our workshop in Galle (Sri Lanka) using natural coloured gemstones from the island. These three different designs are inspired by the light and the natural tropical beauty of Ceylon.  They all have a contemporary style, but they are also timeless jewels able to stand the test of time. We are sure that they can become a must ring in your personal collection.

A nature-based design: our signet flower sapphire ring

The tropical beauty of Ceylon always stirs the imagination of our founder, Maria Moro, helping her to create new jewellery designs. The organic shapes and wonderful colours of nature inspire most of our iconic pieces.

This first signet ring reminds us the shape of a wide-open lotus flower. Four natural white sapphires finely set as precious petals within a white-gold oxidized ring. It’s a vintage-style gold ring that blends seamlessly modernity and tradition. Our flower sapphire signet ring looks perfect when paired with another pieces of our lotus collection, such as our lotus drop earrings.

Two sparkling designs to shine on: our signet diamond rings

Two different versions of an arty and contemporary jewellery design: the traditional vertical signet ring and the newest plane signet ring. Both handcrafted in 14k yellow gold and studded with vintage rose-cut diamonds within a white gold setting. Our signet rings are also available with natural coloured sapphires.

They are splash of bright and colour to instantly upgrade any look. These sparkling signet rings shine out with their own light, so they perform very well as a stand-alone ring, but they also perform good paired with other plain bands. A twist of signet ring trend worth trying out.

Los anillos sello se reinventan y vuelven a ser la última tendencia en joyas

 

Los anillos sello han vuelto a nuestras vidas. Durante mucho tiempo los hemos considerado una joya ‘anticuada’, olvidándolos en el fondo de los joyeros de nuestras madres y abuelas. Por una larga temporada, se convirtieron en piezas de exhibición de las joyerías de antigüedades. Pero en los últimos años hemos asistido al floreciente renacimiento de la joyería vintage, y con él, los anillos sello han vuelto al tablero de juego para convertirse en la última tendencia.

El anillo sello está cargado de importancia histórica. Sus orígenes se remontan al Egipto de los faraones. Desde la Antigüedad ha sido todo un símbolo de poder, abolengo y autoridad. Estos famosos anillos de oro estaban estrechamente asociados con la alta sociedad de cada época y se utilizaban con firma o sello personal.

Tradicionalmente, los anillos sello llevaban grabado en relieve el escudo de la familia a la que pertenecía su dueño. Este sello se presionaba contra cera caliente para dejar impresa la divisa representada y así lacrar la correspondencia privada de su propietario. A lo largo de la historia también se les ha llamado ‘anillos de caballero’, dado que generalmente eran los hombres de las más altas clases sociales los que los llevaban. Sin embargo, sería la cultura urbana del hip-hop la encargada de rescatarles del olvido y devolverles al siglo XX. Los anillos sello encajaron a la perfección con las tendencias de joyería XXL de los años ochenta, dejando de ser un símbolo de estatus social, para convertirse en un accesorio de moda más.

En los últimos años, las moda de los años ochenta ha resurgido con fuerza, y junto a ella han vuelto a nuestras vidas los anillos sello. Hoy en día podemos encontrar una inmensa variedad de anillos sello, tanto para hombres, como para mujeres. Esta joya ha sido completamente rediseñada por los creadores de joyas contemporáneos: desde su versión más minimalista, en oro y sin grabados, hasta los modelos más coloridos y brillantes, cuajados de piedras preciosas. Otra tendencia en alza es la personalización, añadiendo las iniciales o el signo del zodiaco del propietario al diseño. Una bonita manera de reinterpretar su función original.

Los anillos sello son uno de los últimos modelos que hemos incorporado a nuestra colección de joyas. Como todas nuestras piezas, cada anillo es realizado a mano por artesanos especializados en nuestro taller en Galle (Sri Lanka), utilizando para ello piedras preciosas naturales de colores procedentes de la propia isla. La belleza tropical de la isla de Sri Lanka siempre despierta la imaginación de nuestra fundadora y diseñadora María Moro, ayudándola a crear nuevas joyas. Las formas orgánicas y los maravillosos colores de la naturaleza inspiran algunas de nuestras piezas más icónicas.

Este anillo sello nos evoca la forma de una flor de loto abierta. Los pétalos de la delicada y preciosa flor central son cuatro zafiros blancos naturales en talla marquesa engastados en el centro de una pieza de oro blanco envejecido. Es un anillo de oro con aroma vintage que conjuga a la perfección modernidad y tradición. Ambos están realizados en oro amarillo de 14k y completamente incrustados de pequeños diamantes vintage en talla rosa engastados en oro blanco.
